Le Web ’10 and Social Media Clubhouse

Le Web '10One event I would really love to get to some time is Le Web, held in Paris, France of course, on Dec 8-9. It claims, and justifiably as far as I know, to be the #1 Internet event in Europe. With 2500 or so participants and an array of Web business leaders as speakers, it must surely provide a great buzz.

This video from the LeWeb site made me wish the Fairy Godmother had appeared a week ago, waved her magic wand and produce a couple of business class tickets to Paris.

But iIf like me you didn’t get the FG plus magic wand visit and are unlikely to be able to get to Paris in the next 24 hours, you could get into some of the Le Web buzz via the Social Media Clubhouse live videocast.

Social Media Club logoSocial Media Club has been developing this clubhouse concept for a while now, most recently at BlogWorld Expo in Las Vegas in October this year.

Social Media Clubhouse (#SMCH5 Twitter hashtag) features talk shows, interviews and more.

There is an impressive lineup of speakers, including Robert Scoble, Jeremiah Owyang, Tara Hunt and Matt Mullenweg.

Go here for the full story and how to get details of the live streaming.

I Would Love to be Going to Florida for Social Media University

One of several really interesting social mediasphere events scheduled to happen between now and the end of the year is the Social Media University, which is being produced by Social Media Club and hosted at the Sheraton Orlando Downtown Hotel from November 10-12th, 2010 (with social activities planned for November 13th).

Unfortunately I don’t look like being able to attend, although this is an event I would really love to be part of.

(UPDATE: Social Media University event has been postponed)

As well as being a collaborative, learning-focused event, it will also be the 1st Annual Conference of Social Media Club, which now comprises some 230 local chapters around the globe.

The list of featured speakers is very impressive – I would even say formidable, (in a nice way).

I just know it’s going to be a memorable event with lots of great knowledge-sharing and no doubt more than a few Aha! moments along the way. I can say with complete assurance that this will be a no-hype event, combining high aims with a down-to-earth approach to implementation.

And knowing as I do some of the key people, I have a pretty good idea the social side will be most enjoyable too!

Discount tickets are available through October 1st: just $395 for Professional (dues paying) Members of Social Media Club, and $500 for Non Members! (Current annual fee for Professional membership, with no separate joining fee, is $100).

Best Job in the World Campaign Story at Social Media Club Brisbane

Tourism Queensland’s Chris Chambers and Sarah Whyte at Social Media Club Brisbane

Social Media Club BrisbaneI’m looking forward to the first meeting for the year of Social Media Club Brisbane, especially as it will feature an “inside story” briefing on Tourism Queensland’s hugely successful Best Job in the World campaign, promoting the islands of the Great Barrier Reef.

Our special guest speakers for the evening event will be Chris Chambers, Director of Digital Marketing at Tourism Queensland (TQ) and his colleague Sarah Whyte, Marketing Manager, Digital at TQ.

Widely considered as the most successful tourism campaign in the world, the campaign for the islands of the Great Barrier Reef catapulted global tourism marketing into a whole new realm. It has already spawned a host of copycat campaigns and netted several national and international awards including 8 awards in the prestigious Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.

Social Media Club events are designed to share the latest information and ideas on social media: SMC motto is “If you get it, share it”. Social Media Club Brisbane (SMCB) is one of 95 active local chapters worldwide and was the first SMC established in Australia.

SMCB is supported by sponsors Social.2.CRM and Radian6 and a volunteer event coordination group.

Event details: Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at 6 pm for a 6.30 pm start – at Indooroopilly Golf Club (View Map). Admission free of charge.

Getting a Handle on Social Personas at Social Media Club Sydney

smcsydI’m looking forward eagerly to the Social Media Club Sydney event planned for tomorrow night, 31st August.

What with that and attendance at the next day’s Future of Influence Summit, I expect my brain will be buzzing with new ideas and perspectives by the time I get home on Tuesday night.

There are two speakers for the Social Media Club (SMC) event: best selling author and marketing strategist David Meerman Scott and senior analyst for Forrester Research, Steven Noble.

I’m intrigued by the theme for the evening: “Understand social personas and stop wasting money and resources”. The theme is explicated somewhat in the blurb for the event, but I’m still intrigued, but also excited because I am absolutely sure these two speakers will be stimulating some serious thinking and discussion.

Tim Burrowes from the dynamic mUmbrella (“Everything under Australia’s media and marketing umbrella”) will be moderator and interviewer for the evening, with forum style Q & A. The event is designed for drinks & mingling before and after.

Unfortunately for anyone thinking of trying to book now, SMC Sydney has done it again and the event is “sold out” (i.e. it’s free, but full). On my count just now of those listed to attend, and if all who’ve registered were to come there will be at least 400 present. Mind you, as a Sydneysider born and bred, although no  longer living there, I’ve long held the view that a Sydneysider’s “Yes, I’ll be there” must always be understood to carry the unspoken qualification “…unless I get a better offer in the meantime”. But as previous events have had the House Full sign out, it clearly pays to book early, and fast, for SMCSyd events.

I’ll do my best to take some notes on the night and post something later in the week. No doubt others will be tweeting and blogging the event too and I’ll see if I can link to some of that info stream.

Successful Launch for Social Media Club Canberra

Great news from the Australian National Capital: house full at Social Media Club Canberra launch

It looks as if Social Media Club Canberra founder Stephen Collins (aka @trib on Twitter) had a not unpleasant problem at the SMC Canberra launch breakfast this morning in the national capital: evidently a bigger than expected turnout.
