Why the time is right
I’ve been intending for quite a while to do this and have actually been telling people I would be doing it. When the New Year came around I thought this was a moment of truth. Time to deliver on the promise.
It’s also my view that the timing is right now for anyone using social media for business or career to develop a strategy and a roadmap. As with any other aspect of business, working just on tactics for social media without a strategy is at best an example of short-term thinking.
So many people in business and freelance professionals want to make good use of social media for their businesses and/or careers but are bamboozled by all the possibilities.
“Do I need a Facebook page, a Twitter account, a blog? How will I manage it all? What are the risks? Could I actually damage my business or career by not being savvy enough about how to use social media?”
All good questions and many people are caught between worrying that they might miss out and worrying that if they dive in they might get it wrong.
I’m not promising by any means that every question will be answered through the webinars, but it does provide a time and a space once a month where we share some ideas and some tips for moving forward with confidence.
We have an online conference room facility where I share stuff from my desktop (for instance showing you various social media platforms and sites in operation), do slideshow presentations, use a whiteboard and interact directly with participants.
Conversations, not lectures
My aim is always to make the webinars to be as interactively participative as they can be, consistent with providing a worthwhile learning experience for the group.
As this series is a new venture, there is no lack of scope for improvement and refinement. So if you decide to participate you will have the chance to help make the experience as helpful to you as it can be. It won’t be total democracy, but it will be interactive and my aim is for the series to be as real-world practical as it can be, so feedback and suggestions for improvement will be very welcome.

When: every fourth fourth Monday for US/Canada, with is every fourth Tuesday Australia and New Zealand (except in December – third Mon/Tue).
Times: With varying seasons and times around the world, we can’t have one fixed time everywhere. We use 5 pm US Pacific time (year round) as the benchmark and work out the rest from there. So, for example, in April and May the times will be: USA/Canada 5 pm Pacific time, 8 pm Eastern, Monday; in Australia 10 am Tuesday Australian Eastern time, and New Zealand 12 noon Tuesday.
If you want to calculate times for yourself, I recommend using the interactive tool at TimeandDate.com – look under Time Zone Calculator and click on Meeting Planner. You can start your check by inserting, say, San Francisco for the first city.
Where: Online webinar – using my online conference room
How will you connect? Once you have registered for the webinar series, and prior to the next webinar after you register, you will be sent a web address to sign on. This will give you access to the live webinar direct from your computer. No downloads of software, no special installations.
You will have access to previous webinars through a private online community site you will be invited to join.
Reminders: We all have so much on our plates, I’ll send a couple of email reminders closer to the event.
What if you can’t make it on the day/evening of the webinar? It is my intention to record every session, so if you are registered as a participant you will be able to take the session later, at a time that suits you.
What if you try it and don’t find value for you? No problem. With every notification there will be an unsubscribe link and I will not take it personally if you use that!
