Why it Makes Sense to Develop a Social Media Roadmap

The Wine Library guy, Gary Vaynerchuk, is legendary for his use of social media to build his family wine business.

Business Week May 20, 2008 on Vaynerchuk:

He has transformed his father’s small Springfield (N.J.) wine shop, from which his show takes its name, from a $4 million-a-year business to a $50 million-a-year enterprise that makes half of its sales through online orders.

On the subject of whether getting into social media is a good business idea (the ROI discussion) he said recently:

“I’m just not intrigued, or interested, or in any shape or form motivated to convince big companies that they need to do this.

“The smart ones will and then they’ll win. The dumb ones won’t and then they’ll lose.”

Dell’s Million from Twitter

Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) says Twitter has produced $1 million in revenue over the past year and a half through sale alerts.

“A million dollars isn’t a lot of money, but it shows that people want to sign up for feeds,” says Bob Pearson, head of communities and conversation for Dell.

Longitudinal study of top fastest growing companies in US found 39% of Inc. 500 are blogging (compared with 11.6% of Fortune 500)

A condensed, half-day version of the workshop can also be arranged.
